Rangers have been boosted by the news that giant centre-half Danny Shittu is close to agreeing a new three-year deal at the club.

Following lengthily negotiations, the player is set to sign a brand new deal on returning from international duty with Nigeria.

The former Charlton trainee’s current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2006 and following rumours of interest from Championship bound Southampton and Crystal Palace, the club have moved to tie the 24-year old up for a further three years.
